The SS are on of the most important aspects of the game, and it's a good idea to have a good strategy for handling them. Most advice given here is based on a rebirth strategy, as rebirths are so obviously the smartest way to play the game.

Purchasing SS
- At low levels you should only buy the cheap SS (common/uncommon), as it's better to have several SS mediocre SS than one rather good SS. More SS means more Quests, Adventures and PvP, and thus faster advancement and more silver and resources.
- When you can afford it you should buy some Peerless SS and make them permanent. This will be a HUGE help in your next life. This is not critical until you plan to RI!
- If you have gold to spare, you might want to buy one SS for gold. It's not wasted, as it comes with unlocked seal slots that would cost an equal amount of gold to unlock. This can make good tales SS, as the extra seal slots can make it much stronger!
- Prior to a rebirth you should sell all the gear that isn't going to Alliance Challenges and AvA camps. This should enable you to buy one or more Peerless SS. Remember to make them permanent!
Training your SS
- Generally it's better to specialize your SS. As soon as the combined skill point value of the keep + SS stats exceed 200, a one percentage point improvement is worth more than two skill points.
- Don't send any permanent SS on PvP or AvA, as they gain no experience from those actions. Even boss quests give little experience, so you should focus on adventures.
- Focus on getting one of each type of specialized SS, so that you can handle any type of quest.
- Train most of your other SS in you house specialty, as that is most effective.
- If you have already made one of each type of Peerless permanent SS, you should consider making battle, trade and intrigue SS. These will be better at doing the boss quests.
- For tales you should train 3 peerless SS in your main stat, 3 peerless SS in one of the other stats and 2 peerless SS in the last stat. This way you can have 2 SS of each type as specialists, while the third SS can have gear that makes it a generalist/switch hitter. If you are doing RI's you should make these permanent!
- Doing boss quests are great if you have maxed out your CP, or need some quick cash or rewards. If you play on Kongregate there is almost always some quests posted in the chat. Remember that in order to do vol2+ boss quests you must open that volume first.
Equipping your SS
- Your best gear (with the best seals) should of course go to you character.
- Your second priority is equipping your tales SS. To be competitive you should use good seals and possibly some tales specific gear/seals
- Always fill the seal slots of your SS with good seals that matches their specialty.
- The cheap SS doesn't really matter much. Just toss on the best gear you have left. A few percentage points extra chance of winning isn't worth the hassle when you have 100+ SS.
Other considerations
- DON'T garrison with Peerless permanent SS. WHEN they die you have to pay 24,000 silver to get them back. {Note: This is temporarily reduced to 100 silver for all SS while the new AVA is in beta.}
- When an SS dies, you should resurrect him/her. If you don't, you lose the gear it had on (I don't think this includes perm gear).
- When you are doing a rebirth, you should have ALL permanent SS idle. If they are out on an assignment you risk them getting stuck in the next life, and stopping you from finishing the Prologue. This is of course a bug, but it hasn't been fixed yet.
- You can increase the silver gained in PvP by unlocking certain talents. If you have the gold to spare this is a good investment. For example can you 40% extra silver from barters.
- You should always have more SS than you have CP and GP combined. When you have used all your CP on adventures and p2p, and all GO on AvA, you can then still do all the quests, Alliance Challenges and Boss Quests, thus maximizing your gains.
- There are several personal tactics that give a bonus to the SS experience gain that are nice to have if you would like to level up your SS.
- When you are doing PvP there are certain rules for gaining seals:
- If you are level 149 or below, the other player may not be less than 5 levels below you in order for you to gain a seal.
- If you are level 150-249, then a successful PvP action against any player with level above 145 may grant you a seal.
- If you are level 250+, then a successful PvP action against any player level 200 or above may grant you a seal.
- If you are level 149 or below, the other player may not be less than 5 levels below you in order for you to gain a seal.
Abbreviations:
- SS = Sworn Sword
- CP = Command Points. These limits the amount of SS you can have out on various missions at the same time. CP = 2 + level/5
- GP = Garrison Points. These limits the amount of SS you can have garrisoned in AVA at the same time. GP = 7*[Level]^0.42 - 7
- AvA = Alliance vs Alliance. The fighting between alliances in the World Events.
- P2P (or PvP) = Player to Player. Sending harmful OR helpful actions against other players.
- BQ = Boss Quest. Quests where you are invited to help another player to finish the mission.
- RI = Reincarnation.
